Campus
Boras is a town in southwestern Sweden, about 60 kilometers east of Gothenburg, Sweden’s second-largest city.
Located in the center of Boras, just ten minutes from the main train and bus station, the Boras University campus is the heart of student life. You’ll find everything you need on campus! In addition to classrooms, we have one of Sweden’s best libraries, as well as restaurants, cafés and a student bookshop.
The campus features modern buildings in the city center, within walking distance of local amenities such as stores, restaurants, banks and supermarkets. Public transport in Boras is both safe and reliable, so many students choose to live in the surrounding area and commute to the university.
During your studies, the Studentenwerk is also at your disposal. This is a student-run organization that offers advice, activities and other services to students.
To discover
The university is located in downtown Boras: a charming town surrounded by nature. The city boasts a rich cultural life, colorful street art and excellent opportunities for sports and outdoor recreation. The number of foreign students has been high over the past decade, helping to make Boras University a dynamic, multicultural place of learning.
Boras is a medium-sized Swedish town with a population of around 113,000. The city is well known in Sweden as a textile and commercial center, rich in innovation and entrepreneurship. In Boras, nothing is too far away; everything you need can be found in the town, and the town is close to picturesque surroundings. The large city of Gothenburg and Landvetter airport are less than an hour’s drive away. At Boras, you’ll find everything you need for an enriching study and leisure experience.
Boras is a thriving student town, with pleasant cafés, beautiful parks and a full cultural and entertainment program.
With several large parks and outdoor areas, you can play sports, swim or spend a relaxing day enjoying nature. A unique and exciting aspect of the town is the open-air exhibition No Limit Street Art, in which street artists from all over the world have decorated Boras with murals, sculptures and installations!
Sports fans will find plenty to do in Boras. The area around Knalleland boasts numerous sports facilities, including the Boras Arena, built in 2005. The arena is home to Elfsborg soccer club, Swedish Premier League champions in 2012. It also hosts concerts and other events.
If you prefer the countryside, you’re in luck. A short bus or bike ride from the city center brings you to forests, lakes and vast stretches of farmland.
Good to know
The town became the center of the Swedish textile industry several hundred years ago. Today, most factories have been relocated, but Boras remains the center of textile design in Sweden.
In recent years, Borås has also gained a reputation as the sculpture capital of Sweden. Sculptures by renowned Swedish and international artists are scattered throughout the city. The biggest attraction, literally, is the nine-metre-high Pinocchio sculpture by American artist Jim Dine.
The Swedish krona (plural kronor) is the national currency. It is often written SEK or kr. A crown is made up of 100 öre. Since 2010, all öre coins have been withdrawn from circulation. Product prices can still be expressed in öre, but the amount is rounded up to the nearest crown when paid in cash.
Many English speakers call the currency “The Swedish Crown”, as krona literally means crown in Swedish.
