To discover
Sejong City was created in 2012 with the aim of decentralizing the country’s administration from Seoul. As a government-planned city, it boasts well laid-out streets and green spaces throughout.
That’s why, since 2014, Sejong has been home to the “Government Complex” representing most of South Korea’s administrative bodies.
However, this city, named after King Sejong the Great, is well worth a visit for its modern infrastructure, its importance to the country’s administration and its involvement in the development of Korea’s future “smart” cities.
Among the city’s tourist attractions, we recommend the Geumgang pedestrian bridge, Korea’s longest, Sejong Lake Park, the country’s largest man-made park, and the Sejong National Arboretum, one of Korea’s three national arboretums. We also recommend a visit to a number of representative sites in the city, such as the roof garden at the Sejong government complex, where 15 buildings are linked together to form a dragon soaring through the air, and the Geodetic Space Observation Center, the only center of its kind in Korea, renowned for its ultra-precise geodetic space technology. As far as nature activities are concerned, popular sites for tourists include Beartree Park, home to around 150 black bears, and Yeongpyeongsa Temple, a site in bloom all year round. Other popular sites include the Geumgang Recreation Forest, overlooking a lush forest and the Geumgang River, and the village of Dweeungbark, where you can sample traditional Korean fermented foods. Finally, by downloading the “Sejong is the first?” app, you can not only obtain various tourist information and personalized recommendations, but also find your way via augmented reality technologies.
Good to know
The school’s motto, announced on the occasion of KU’s 50th anniversary, represents the achievement of human freedom (LIBERTAS), the pursuit of justice (JUSTITIA) in society, and a fervent passion for the search for truth (VERITAS).

Passport valid for six months after your return date.
All foreign exchange students must obtain a D-2-6 visa to study in Hanyang. The D-2-6 visa is a single-entry visa valid for only 90 days after the student’s arrival in Korea.
Consequently, students must apply for an Alien Registration Card (ARC) to extend their stay in order to complete the program and be able to travel to other countries if necessary.
Students may not leave Korea until they have received the ARC. Leaving Korea without ARC will result in the cancellation of the visa and the Visiting Student Program.
