To discover
Moscow is a city that literally beats like a heart. You will discover an rich cultural life, a bustling nightlife, the flashy kitsch of the ‘New Russians’ the new rich Russians, the luxury food market behind Kiev Station where you can ask a doorman to push your golden cart while you buy caviar. Visit the Red Square and the Kremlin of course, but also the Ismailovo Park flea market and the Novodevichy cemetery where most of the famous figures of the USSR and Russia are buried. The funeral statute is impressive and often illustrates the professions of the deceased since religious symbols were prohibited. The metro itself is worth a visit : each station is individually decorated and generally it is massive. Also go to an Orthodox Easter Mass celebrated by the Metropolitan of Moscow. Saint Petersburg is one night away by sleeper train, L’Hermitage awaits you with its paintings by Matisse as well as the Summer Palace and do not miss La Vague, a huge painting at the Russian Museum.
Good to know
It can get very cold in February and March, on average -5 to -10 ° C in February, and a few days with extreme temperatures of -20 or -30 ° C are common. The city will likely be snow-capped when you arrive and the last snowfall may occur in early May. If you are not equipped for the cold, a detour to Vieux Campeur is a must. But the buildings are all very (too) well heated. Muscovites are not very friendly, especially in public transportation.
The university estimates accommodation and living expenses at € 600-900 / month.
