To discover
The name ‘Romania’ comes from the Latin word ‘Romanus’, meaning ‘citizen of the Roman Empire’. Authentic, natural and cultural are the words that best capture the essence of Romania, a dynamic country rich in history, arts and beauty. Romania offers countless unique travel experiences just waiting to be discovered. The town of Galati is the capital of the district of the same name in south-east Romania. A river port located some 190 kilometres north-east of Bucharest, it stands on a rise on the south-western shore of Lake Brateş overlooking a marshy area at the confluence of the Danube and Siret rivers. Although the entrance to the town is via an industrial estate, Galaţi’s town centre is more attractive: the strada Domnească is home to some fine middle-class houses, as well as 19th-century administrative buildings.
