The cheapest way to get a good meal is to use the subsidised student meals in around a hundred restaurants around Ljubljana. A meal costs between €3 and €5. Each student can use as many subsidies as there are working days in the month (around 20 per month). To be able to use these subsidies, you must be in possession of a student card or your enrolment card, your identity card/passport, your mobile phone (with a Slovenian sim card) and/or you can buy a card with which you can use your mobile phone. Here is the link to the list of restaurants and other information on subsidised meals: https://www.studentska-prehrana.si/en.
To discover
Ljubljana is a very pleasant and dynamic city. It offers many sights, picturesque districts and pleasant corners. A lively, green city that combines the charm of a small capital with the presence of Europe’s major metropolises. Since 1991, the city has been the main economic and cultural centre of Slovenia, now independent from Yugoslavia. The city is strongly influenced by Austrian fashion, in the style of Graz and Salzburg. The old town is made up of two districts. The Town Hall district, where the main architectural works are located, and the Knights of the Cross district, where the Ursuline Church, the Philharmonic Society building (1702) and Cankar’s house are situated. Ljubljana Castle dominates the hill overlooking the river Ljubljanica. Built in the 12th century, the castle was the residence of the Margraves, then the Dukes of Carinthia. Apart from the castle, the city’s main architectural works are St Nicholas Cathedral, St Peter’s Church, the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, the Triple Bridge and the Dragon Bridge. Ljubljana’s central market is much more than just a place to go shopping, as it has always been the place where the people of Ljubljana like to meet up and relax.
