The Seoul campus is ideally located near the heart of Seoul, close to a major transport hub (Wangsimni station) from where metro, train and bus services are easily accessible. Situated on the Han River in the north-west of the country, Seoul has a population of around eleven million within the city itself and over 27,000,000 in its urban area, making it the fourth most populous megalopolis in the world. Home to some of Korea’s biggest companies, including Samsung, LG and Hyundai, Seoul is regarded as a global city. Its very high standard of living and GDP – the fourth highest in the world for an urban area after Tokyo, New York and Los Angeles – make it one of the world’s leading economic centres. There are 5 royal palaces in Seoul. Gyeongbokgung is the largest and most visited. Cheonggyecheon is 6 km long and a very pretty place to take a stroll in downtown Seoul. Cheonggyecheon is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Seoul. Gwanghwamun Square is a large pedestrian area where you can stroll and take a break. This square is right next to the entrance to Gyeongbokgung Palace. Bukchon Hanok Village is in the historic centre of Seoul. It is one of Seoul’s oldest districts. It was the home of the Korean nobility during the Joseon dynasty. From the heights of Bukchon Hanok Village, you can see the contrast between the traditional houses of the district and the modern buildings of Seoul.

Designated a “City of Design” by UNESCO, Seoul is home to some gems of contemporary art, including the Dongdaemun Design Plaza & Park and the new city hall with its vast, undulating glass façade. Seoul’s constant pursuit of innovation has made the city a haven for high technology. It boasts the fastest average Internet connection speed in the world, a massive digital media city, and some of the largest companies in the tech industry. The Fashion Week, where the latest streetwear creations from the city’s top designers are showcased, has become a must-attend event for industry enthusiasts. This influential event, held twice a year in March and October, is the most important occasion for both established and upcoming South Korean designers to present their streetwear designs to industry spectators.

Procedures
Passport valid for six months after your return date. All foreign exchange students must obtain a D-2-6 visa to study in Hanyang. The D-2-6 visa is a single-entry visa that is only valid for 90 days after the student’s arrival in Korea. Students must therefore apply for an Alien Registration Card (ARC) to extend their stay in order to complete the programme and travel to other countries if necessary. Students may not leave Korea until they have received the ARC. Leaving Korea without an FRC will result in the cancellation of the visa and the Visiting Student Programme.
