Mary Washington is a liberal arts university located in Fredericksburg in the eastern United States. Founded in 1908, it has about 5 300 students in 2010. Its campus covers 71 hectares.

Campus
The University offers over 120 student organisations ranging from sports teams to arts and entertainment clubs to voluntary organisations and more.
At the beginning of each semester the University organises a carnival of clubs where all the student organisations have stalls and recruit students to join them.
There is a fitness centre.
Several sports clubs on campus allow students to participate in local, regional and national competitions.
You can also join the art classes, the orchestra, or the theatre team.
The Outdoor Recreation programme offers the opportunity to explore the beautiful outdoors either through organised trips or by hiring equipment to go it alone.

Eagle Village is a shopping centre located across the street from the campus and near to the Eagle Landing student apartment complex.
There are many shops and restaurants, including a large grocery shop.
Visit the historic downtown: Fredericksburg’s “Downtown” refers to the city’s historic downtown and commercial district. Only a 10-minute walk from the campus, the city centre is a charming place worth visiting. There are many restaurants and cafes, shops, antique shops and a farmers’ market. In addition, many events are organised throughout the year, such as concerts, parades, exhibitions, etc.
The Rappahannock River runs through the centre of Fredericksburg. You can go canoeing or kayaking, swimming or fishing. For a walk, you can go along the river.
You can also take the opportunity to visit nearby cities, such as Washington, D.C., which you can reach by the DC metro https://www.wmata.com/
Good to know
Although public transport is limited, most of what you need is within walking distance of the campus.
Cycling is an option for getting around the campus and surrounding areas, as far as downtown Fredericksburg, which is bike-friendly due to its wide one-way streets.

Passport valid for six months after your return date.
VISA required: You will apply for a J-1 Exchange Visitor visa (student category, college/university category). See the “How to Apply” section of the US Department of State website (Exchange Visitor Visa) http://bit.ly/2EBvQQ2.
You will have to pay the SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) feehttp://bit.ly/2EmUy7v. This is a one-off fee of $220 levied by the US government.
This is a one-shot fee of $220 charged by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
An International insurance will be required before you leave.
The university’s insurance is compulsory and you will not be able to take out any other insurance.

You will need to live on campus. The university will provide you with all information related to accommodation and the Dining Plan once accepted.
