Founded in 1801, the University of South Carolina has 27,000 students and offers more than 350 programs. The university is located in Columbia, the capital of South Carolina. However, don’t expect a metropolis, as Columbia has around 120,000 inhabitants, but the campus itself is a real city with all its facilities : cafeteria, swimming pool, medical services, stadium (come cheer for the football team) …

Your J-1 visa allows you to work for up to 20 hours / week during your studies or to continue on a 2-month internship.
Insurance:
All the incoming exchange students to UofSC can elect for the UofSC’s insurance planor choose from one of these three U.S. based alternative insurance plans: ISO Student Health Insurance, PSI Insurance or PGH Global. UofSC insurance offers the most coverage and access to UofSC on-campus health services. The three alternative plans are also approved plans for the UofSC insurance coverage requirements and sufficient for use within the U.S. health care system. It’s important to note that U.S. insurance rarely covers the entire cost of an appointment. Be prepared to pay a small portion of the cost, which is called a co-pay. Additionally, insurance plans have deductibles, which is an amount of money you must pay first before insurance will begin covering the costs of medical needs. For the four plans linked above, the co-pays and deductibles will vary; review the policies to find out each plan’s particular coverage.
Accommodation
On campus in apartments (South Quad, International House & Bates West), shared accommodation. Living on campus is mandatory.
Plan between US $ 3,340 and US $ 4,500 / semester. There are also a $ 50 application fee and a home insurance for around $ 200 / semester.
Optional “Linen Pack” for $ 130 which includes all necessary bedding.
