To discover
Zwolle is a Dutch town, capital of the province of Overijssel. Located 80 kilometers northeast of the capital Amsterdam, it was once part of the Hanseatic League, the historic association of northern European merchant towns around the North and Baltic Seas. The town boasts a medieval center, a magical theater, a wide variety of stores, friendly hotels and restaurants, and several magnificent parks. Zwolle really does have everything you’d expect from a modern city, while retaining the intimacy of the past. Historic facades, city walls and towers, the 600-year-old Sassenpoort (city gate) and the star-shaped canal, flanked by impressive merchant houses and trees, are the hallmarks of Zwolle.
A Hanseatic city lives on the water, which means that waterways play an important role in Zwolle. You can explore the canal around the old town on a boat tour.
Be amazed by the works of Vincent van Gogh and Piet Mondriaan at the Fundatie Museum.
The Blauwvingerdagen days take place in July: one of the biggest markets in the Netherlands, with 450 stands.
